2012 Summer Intensive Dance Camp SCHOLARSHIP =))
The 2012 Summer Intensive Dance Camp was a huge
success! This Intense Dance Camp lasted
a full day, from 8am – 330pm for an entire week!! Dancing started on time and
ended shortly after 3pm daily. During
this time we all really got to know each other! Dancers were faced with early
morning strenuous activities, emotions, and lots of dance!! Dance Instructors were able to see how
dancers handled stress and other challenges.
As a growing successful studio, DDS is seeking out
more teenaged dancers and some younger (if applicable) that are emotionally
ready to be pushed to performance level.
We call these dancers our Principal Dancers. We are always looking to acquire new dancers
that would benefit our team.
Dance Camp was created for those families who have
heard about Devereaux Dance Studio but may have been unsure of the skills,
talents, and goals that were accomplished here.
The camp was also created for current students to keep up their skills,
and obtain better performance skills for the following dance season. Current dancers of DDS were observed for
potential solos for the following dance season.
New dancers to DDS also have a very special
opportunity. Two dancers, one aged 6 –
12, and the other aged 13 – 19, would be honored with a scholarship. This scholarship is a small award of taking
one dance class at DDS for the month of September For FREE. No Registration Fee. 5 Extra Tickets for the June Recital. The person to receive this reward must have
shown a great deal of discipline in dance class. Followed directions without complaint, showed
immense improvement, and overall displayed self-motivation and a passion for
dance.
The two people chosen for the 2012 Summer Dance
Intensive Scholarship are awarded to Tamya Johnson, and Breyauna Avents.
Congratulations Tamya Johnson and Breyauna Avents!!!!

2012 Summer
Dance Intensive has been awesome. We have an excellent group of girls this
summer (this summer being our first summer). Some have experience and some don’t
have so much. This dance camp starts at
8oclock sharp, Mon – Fri. We begin class
on barres, including, positions, focusing on technique, and going through
combinations. Then we do floors combined
with some serious stretching. Then we
have lyrical training, with an intense modern work out. Right after lyrical,
the kids eat lunch. Then we do basic tap exercises, and practice our tap
number. We end each day with Hip-hop, the kid’s favorite.
The girls
have learned about FIVE different routine, one or two for just about each
genre. They have come soooo far in such a short period of time.
These little
dancers have been arriving at the studio rather promptly for the most
part. Eight o’clock in the morning is a
pretty early time; some of them come in cranky, and some come in excited and
ready to dance. What they don’t know,
and only you readers know, are that I have been paying very close attention to
their attitude towards dance. Two of
them will be receiving scholarships to be a dancer at the studio for free, come
September. I’ll keep you all posted on
who I chose. Obviously, this person
arrives on time, has a positive attitude towards dance, works hard consistently
throughout the day, is a pleasure to be around, and is encouraging to others.
