Devereaux Dance Studio

End of the Year

Mid Dance Season

Wrap Up:  Part One!!!

Devereaux Dance Studio is building the mind, bodies, and talents of boys and girls of all ages to be strong and confident dancers.  Devereaux’s Dance Studio exists to provide a safe, inspiring, and productive environment for ages Pre K to Adult.  At DDS, your child will enhance their memorizing techniques, social, emotional, and physical development.  Our goal is to support the goals and dreams of the children at DDS.  If there is any doubt, there is proof in our performances.

Placing second in the Fish Bowl Parade, being chosen to participate in the Obama campaign, and being selected to be a part of an anti-bullying campaign produced by Michael Copon, with musical talent Vikki Jade, is a lot to be proud of, and it is just the beginning! We still have half a dance season to go!!

As quickly as September came and went, October came through rather quickly as well, presenting us with the Fish Bowl Parade challenge. The girls spent extra time outside of the studio to work on their HipHop.  Their hard work paid off as they brought home the Third Place trophy.  First place went to a full ensemble local band. Congratulations to them and to the Second place Portsmouth Parks and Recreation Float winners.  As the only dance studio to place in the entire competition, we came in Third.  So a special “CONGRATULATIONS” to the hard working dancers of Devereaux Dance Studio!!! For those of you who were there you saw how many other dance studios as well as full ensemble bands participated. This was the very first parade for some of our dancers.  So that definitely deserves a “pat on the back”.  Also, a special “THANK YOU” to all of the parents, family, and friends, who participated and supported their kids in this event.  Thank You! You were an essential part of this success!

Before we could properly celebrate our Fish Bowl victory, November was here! It was only two days before the video was to be recorded, when I got the call.  At the very last minute I got a phone call saying that we had been selected to represent Virginia in the Obama Flash Mob Campaign.  I had to pull together some quick choreography, and the girls had to quickly adjust.  This opportunity was unique to the year 2013 because it was the first of its kind and it was an opportunity that could only present itself every four years.  So the dancers at DDS proudly took on the challenge.  Did the girls pull through?  Absolutely!!!! You can see for yourself at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VScc5Mn0uY&feature=plcp .

So…so far, so good.  Looks like Devereaux Dance Studio is “winning”! We have been able to stay busy as well as give our dancers new opportunities.  As Obamas Flash Mob Campaign video is being aired across the country, yet another door is opened.

It hasn’t even been two weeks into the month of December and we have already shot another video.  This time the campaign was for anti-bullying and the DDS kids had to audition.  The kids who auditioned were a huge success!!! All of them landed a role in the music video.  The video was produced by Michael Copon and the artist is VikkiJade.  Teven Spires acted as the lead role of the “boy bullied”.  Ladybug and Journei were a part of the bullying group.  Keylah, Beep, Eston, and Lyric were a part of the hallway, and gym scenes.  The video is still in editing, but as soon as it is finished I will send you all a link.

So, an “APPLAUSE” everyone, DDS is definitely doing their thing!!!! A major congratulation to all of the family again for all of their support.  There is no way this can be done without the help, and encouragement of our families.

Now that half of the dance year has passed us by, just be prepared because this is only the beginning! The best is yet to come!!!!! So we have gots to be ready!!!  Our next big goal is to shoot a dancers reel.  This reel is what you will use for future auditions.  It will include a headshot for each dancer and a reel.  So please don’t stop the stretching girls and boys! Hip Hop and contemporary dancers, never settle!! There is always work that needs to be done!!

What are YOUR dance goals for 2013?

There’s nothing wrong with a wish list.  Continue to be encouraged because anything is possible with a little bit of practice and direction.  I definitely have the contacts.  Together we can make a lot of things happen!!! Go Devereaux Dance Studio!!
